Finding Colic Ease Through Gripe Water
The pursuit of colic ease can be desperate for families. A babies constant, unexplained crying, can leave anybody feeling helpless and a new mother feeling worthless. My youngest child was three when we adopted her so I have never had to deal with colic with either of my kids. But I have cared for colicky babies for a few hours at a time for friends and family and it can be so frustrating for just that short time that I cannot imagine how difficult it must be to not be able to make your baby happy day in and day out.
Like I said, I don’t have any real experience to draw from here but I ran across something that I had never heard of and it cracked me up. GRIPE WATER! Is this for real? Have you all heard of it? If I would have heard of it I would have bought gallons and put it in a water bottle for my husband to take in his lunch everyday! I would have never dreamed it was for babies. Well, infant babies anyway!
Apparently the ingredients include stuff like, dill, fennel, chamomile and other herbs that reduce and soothe baby acid. Whereas traditional treatments included probiotics and other drugs to treat infant colic, this “gripe water” offers an alternative, natural way to treat a gassy baby without the nasty side effects.
Colic is a serious issue that can cause so much stress and strain on families so I don’t mean to make fun, I really don’t. But couldn’t those in charge of finding relief for them have come up with a more sensitive name than “gripe water”? I am torn between “relief water” and “soothing water”. What do you think would be a better name for it?

My younger brother was hospitalized just because of this colic thing. I remember my mother, although helpless, still finds strenght to think of ways to stop the endless crying of my three month old brother. When my mother heard that a valium was to be injected, she totally disagreed and instead seek help in a hospital. After two days, my little brother was already well and kicking.

I have 3 younger siblings and when they were still babies, they cry like crazy and I can’t help my mom because I also don’t know what to do. Is gripe water really that effective?
Yes they could have thought up a better name for it instead of Gripe water and soothing water sounds a million times better than Gripe Water
I haven’t heard of gripe water. But then there are so many other things I
haven’t heard about. I think treating a baby’s colic without medical help is
not a good idea at all. Of course, one might do that temporarily before
medical help is available.
What is the difference between Colic-Ease and other brands of gripe water? and What is charcoal doing in some gripe waters and why dont you use it?
I think that would be a better name “relief water”. I did not know this, and thank you a lot of for information because I will get the baby in September and this is really useful information for me.
Greatings, Amazing! Not clear for me, how offen you updating your her-family-blog.com.
Thanks
I recently came accross your blog and have been reading along. I thought I would leave my first comment. I dont know what to say except that I have enjoyed reading. Nice blog.
This is the first time that I have heard that gripe water is a remedy for colic. The great way to look at this is to prevent your baby from having colic is to burp him/her every after feeding.
Thanks everyone for your comments. So we all agree that they should officially change the name to “Relief water”.
I’ll pass it on. One comment in particular reminded me that of course gripe water is not a cure or reason to NOT go to the doctor for a crying upset baby. It is intended to help ease discomfort after your doctor has already ruled out all other problems.
